Here is Shane McGowan writing in The Guardian about playing Glasgow and how he’s dealing with the smoking ban.
“… In Glasgow the police really go for the ban in strength. Some of us were smoking onstage on account it being part of our time-honoured performance, as it were, but the audience was clearly feeling the eyes of the ban upon them. It was tangible.”

It's funny how the ban affects visitors to Scotland. Wasn't there a comedian at the Festival this year who was mumping on about it?
I could count on my hand how many Scottish people I know still complaining about the ban (all smokers obviously) while the majority of people I know - including smokers - are in favour of it.
Of course, the summer helped. I don't think the populace would have been so quick to embrace it had we not been able to sit out for hours at a time during the summer.
And it's meant that bars have had to be more inventive. Someone told me recently that the Ubiquitous Chip (sic) has opened up a smoker's area on the roof.
I don't agree with Shane, I haven't felt any police oppression about this issue. Everyone embraced it off their own bat.
It's less fun when you go somewhere with someone who thinks that it's fine to leave you sitting on your own for most of the night while she stands outside smoking.
